Wondering about VigRX Plus side effects and whether it’s right for you? Here’s everything you need to know about this sexual performance supplement.
Despite what society may lead you to believe, sexual dysfunction and sexual disorders are very common. Nearly 30 million men deal with erectile dysfunction (ED) in the U.S.
Meanwhile, other sexual function issues like premature ejaculation and decreased sexual desire are more likely to happen as you get older.
These issues certainly have an impact on your sex life, and wanting to find a solution is completely normal.
In the search for male enhancement products, you’ve probably come across various enhancement pills that claim to give you a larger penis and rock-hard erections while improving sexual performance in the bedroom.
One enhancement supplement you may have come across is VigRX, a sexual enhancement supplement that claims to support sexual prowess (aka a healthy desire for sex) and help you maintain harder erections, among other potential benefits.
But does this health supplement work? We’ll discuss VigRX plus reviews, side effects and whether this dietary supplement is safe or recommended to use for sexual dysfunctions.
According to VigRX Plus’s website, it’s a sexual enhancement supplement that can help those who have:
Reduced sexual stamina or sexual energy
Overall difficulty with sexual function
Complying with the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) rules, the company website states that its product is not intended to diagnose, treat or cure diseases.
Therefore, this product shouldn’t be used in place of medical care from a professional physician or licensed healthcare provider.
According to the manufacturer’s website, being able to purchase VigRX Plus without a prescription may be a benefit for some.
On the product review site Trustpilot, VigRX Plus’s reviews give the product a rating of 4.1 stars out of 5.
Some reviewers have mentioned that they experienced harder erections and an increase in sexual desire after taking the pills for 30 days. However, other individuals with ED found that they didn’t experience any changes after taking a three-month supply of pills.
VigRX Plus’ manufacturer, Leading Edge Health, has a rating of 5 out of 5 with the Better Business Bureau, a nonprofit that provides information on businesses.
As with any medication, it is possible to experience adverse effects from the use of VigRX Plus.
Notably, VigRX Plus reviews have mentioned unwanted side effects of nausea, headaches and diarrhea.
In addition to VigRX side effects, other disadvantages include possible interactions with prescription medications and slow improvement or lack of improvement in ED symptoms or libido.
One small study of 78 men using VigRX Plus found that the supplement was effective at improving sexual stamina and generally well tolerated with fairly minimal adverse effects.
However, the study was done on younger men, and while erectile dysfunction can affect men of all ages, older men may be more likely to develop ED. We should also note that this study was funded by Leading Edge Health, a manufacturer of VigRX Plus.
The manufacturer states that VigRX Plus supplements don’t cause any side effects and that they may even be beneficial for those who eat a plant-based diet.
However, some of the ingredients may have associated VigRX Plus side effects:
Damiana. According to health experts, people use damiana frequently to treat headaches, depression, constipation and upset stomachs. But there’s no evidence linking its use with sexual health conditions.
Side effects can include allergic reaction, difficulty breathing, seizures, fever, trouble swallowing, nausea and vomiting.
Ginkgo biloba. There’s insufficient evidence to prove any medical uses for ginkgo biloba. Those taking this herbal supplement may experience headaches, upset stomachs or allergic skin reactions.
Saw palmetto. Saw palmetto can reportedly help individuals with urinary symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate gland, according to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health.
People who take this herbal medicine may experience headaches or digestive symptoms.
There’s also not enough research on whether the above ingredients help with moderate erectile dysfunction or low sexual desire.
While some VigRX Plus reviews have found this product to be useful in improving erectile function with few to no side effects, this medication hasn’t been approved by the FDA. There also haven’t been enough studies or clinical trials completed to understand if VigRX Plus is an effective ED treatment.
Another small study compared VigRX with a placebo for treating premature ejaculation and found that there wasn’t a significant difference between the two.
While many products claim to treat the symptoms of ED successfully, the American Urological Association offers specific guidelines on ED treatment:
Those with ED symptoms should undergo thorough medical, sexual and psychosocial assessments, along with a physical examination and laboratory tests.
People with ED need to complete questionnaires to help find the right treatment plans.
Healthcare practitioners should advise that ED in males may indicate cardiovascular disease.
The FDA recommends people avoid buying sexual enhancement pills marketed as dietary supplements because they may contain hidden ingredients that pose a health risk.
You should consult with a qualified medical professional before taking supplements to discuss possible adverse or even withdrawal effects.
If you’re struggling with ED, premature ejaculation, low sex drive or any other sexual health issues, consult with a healthcare provider to discuss options that are right for you and your symptoms.
For those who have difficulty maintaining an erection, trouble reaching orgasm or other symptoms of ED, a healthcare professional may prescribe medications like sildenafil (Viagra®), tadalafil (Cialis®) or vardenafil (Levitra®).
VigRX Plus is a male sexual enhancement supplement that some users claim can boost the natural desire for sex, help maintain harder erections and improve your sex life overall.
Despite what some positive VigRX Plus reviews say, though, sexual enhancement supplements aren’t always effective for erectile dysfunction or other sexual issues.
There isn’t enough scientific evidence to support the use of VigRX for ED. The ingredients in this product also aren’t backed by enough research to support claims of improving sexual health, and they may even cause unwanted side effects.
